Rose Mateus Trends

We’ve been using this cleaning system for two weeks now and it’s so well designed, we had to write about it. Sold by Japanese retailer Muji, it’s a combination broom/mop/sponge/duster system that’s efficient, easy to store, and looks better than any broom we’ve ever owned.

A telescopic pole extends from 27 to 44 inches, so you can store it inside a tall kitchen cabinet. The full height of the broom is about 49 inches, 5 inches shorter than the average American broom, which can make it difficult to use if you’re a tall person. (My husband is 6′ 4″ and he has to bend down when he sweeps, but I’m 5′ 7″ and have no problems with the broom height.)

There are a few different attachments that click into place at the end of the pole. We’ve been using the broom, dustpan, bathroom sponge, and duster. The broom is small but performs well—it corrals dust bunnies efficiently and shakes out easily. The bathroom sponge is brilliant—it allows you to scrub tile in high places, and the sponge attaches to its base using velcro, so it’s super simple to replace it. The duster is well designed for reaching a ceiling fan, top of door, or any other high place.

The cleaning system is available at Muji’s online store. A few components are currently sold out, but when we checked with a Muji rep, they said they would be coming back into stock soon.
